What are the private vaccines?

• In addition to the above diseases, vaccines are also available for Hepatitis A, Chickenpox, Meningococcal Disease and Mumps/Measles/German Measles (MMR; note that measles is covered in the EPI as well).
• These vaccines are not compulsory and will not be required when your child goes to school.
• However, it offers parents the opportunity to provide their children with extra protection.
• These vaccines come at an extra cost and they are in many instances covered by clients’ medical aids.
• Adults who haven’t had these disease yet can also receive immunisation.

Some immunisation do’s and don’ts

• Remember that you need to book an appointment to get an immunisation – call 012 329 1301 for assistance.
• If your child is currently moderately to severely ill and has had a fever in the last 24 hours it is advised to delay immunisation. Contact us on the above number to speak to one of our nursing sisters.
• It is best not to give your child fever medication like Paracetamol before coming for your visit as this can influence how the body responds to the vaccine. Our nursing sisters will advice mothers on when to offer medication.
• Do not apply Emla patches or rub ointments like Vicks or Zambuk onto the immunisation site as this can influence absorption.
• It is best not to delay immunisations, but we know that life happens and we are happy to help mothers who need to catch-up on their babies’ immunizations.
• We  also understand that some parents have concerns over immunization and are happy to engage in discussion on this and offer non-judgmental and medically accurate advice and support.
